Culture Guild

Understanding the Times

Scripture Anchor

"From the tribe of Issachar, there were 200 leaders of the tribe with their relatives. All these men understood the signs of the times and knew what Israel ought to do."

(1 Chronicles 12:32)

Is this Guild for me?

If you look at the rapid moral shifts in our society and wonder how a faithful Christian should respond, the Culture Guild is designed for you. Fulfilling the Great Commission requires us to engage a chaotic world with clarity and courage, which is why this Guild is built to serve different believers according to their specific callings:

What kind of work is involved?

Because the cultural landscape shifts so quickly, the workload in this Guild is focused on immediate, real-world application, although we still maintain a high standard of intellectual rigor.

#1

Contemporary and
Relevant Readings:

You will not spend your time reading outdated academic papers because we focus on highly engaging, contemporary materials. These readings are designed to address the actual headlines and cultural debates you face every day, helping you analyze current trends from a solid biblical perspective.

#2

A Focus on
Practical Engagement:

The Culture Guild is highly action-oriented, because we do not want you to merely complain about the culture. Your assignments are designed to help you build relationships and make disciples, which might include performing a personal technology audit, evaluating the ethical claims of a popular news story, or practicing a gracious conversation about a controversial topic with a friend.

#3

Collaborative
Socratic Dialogue:

Rather than learning in a vacuum, you will participate in live, weekly Zoom cohorts that are strictly capped at approximately twenty students. Under the Socratic guidance of a vetted mentor, you will discuss how to apply biblical principles to modern cultural challenges, which will help you learn how to listen well and speak with gentle persuasion.

How does this Guild connect to the rest of the ICA?

The Culture Guild does not operate in isolation, because healthy cultural engagement must be built on the foundation of historic Christian truth:

1. The Link to the
Philosophy Guild

Many modern cultural ideologies are simply bad philosophy made popular, which means the classical logic and Thomistic metaphysics you study in the Philosophy Guild will help you pull back the curtain on modern ethical errors.

2. The Link to the
Bible Guild

We cannot understand the best course for our families to take unless we are anchored in the certain truth of Scripture, which is why the interpretive skills you develop in the Bible Guild serve as our ultimate compass.

3. The Link to the
Virtue Guild

Our goal is not to win cultural shouting matches, because we are called to win people to Christ. The character development and moral virtues taught in the Virtue Guild ensure that your public witness is marked by love, patience, and self-control.

Our Hubs & Curriculum Pathways

To ensure your training provides a clear pathway from basic introduction to practical mastery, the Culture Guild is organized into five specialized Hubs. Each Hub serves as a focused center of study to help you understand a specific area of modern culture and engage it with biblical confidence.

Click on any Hub below to expand the description and view our active workshops. Because our curriculum is constantly expanding to meet the needs of our student body, we regularly add new options to our live block schedules:

1. Bioethics Hub

Purpose: The Bioethics Hub exists because rapid advancements in science and medicine constantly raise deep ethical questions about the nature and value of human life. This Hub integrates into the Culture Guild by defending the truth that every human being is fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God, which provides a solid foundation for evaluating modern issues like reproductive technology, end-of-life care, and the theology of the body. By studying these critical topics, you will be equipped to bring biological clarity and moral compassion to families facing difficult medical decisions.

Scripture Anchor: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." (Psalm 139:14)

2. Politics Hub

Purpose: The Politics Hub exists to help you understand the role of government, justice, and citizenship from a biblical perspective, which is crucial in a highly polarized society. This Hub integrates into our cultural training by showing how righteousness exalts a nation, teaching you how to engage in civic duties and public discussions without compromising your ultimate allegiance to the Kingdom of God. By exploring these principles, you will learn how to promote justice and biblical values in your local community with grace and wisdom.

Scripture Anchor: "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people." (Proverbs 14:34)

Active Workshops

3. Ethics Hub

Purpose: The Ethics Hub exists because modern cultural relativism constantly attempts to redefine morality, often calling evil good and good evil. This Hub integrates into the larger Guild by helping you identify where society has swapped darkness for light, giving you the intellectual tools to defend absolute moral truths with logical consistency. By studying historic Christian ethics, you will learn how to guide others through moral confusion and show that God's moral law is designed for human flourishing.

Scripture Anchor: "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness..." (Isaiah 5:20)

4. Rhetoric Hub

Purpose: The Rhetoric Hub exists because the way we communicate is just as important as the message we carry, which means we must learn how to speak with grace and intellectual precision. This Hub integrates into the Culture Guild by training you to season your public conversations with salt, helping you move past aggressive online debates so that you can build meaningful, relational connections with skeptics. By mastering the art of gentle persuasion, you will know how to answer everyone who asks about the hope you have in Christ.

Scripture Anchor: "Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone." (Colossians 4:6)

5. Technology Hub

Purpose: The Technology Hub exists because digital media, smartphones, and artificial intelligence are rapidly shaping our minds and relationships, often without our conscious permission. This Hub integrates into our curriculum by helping you resist conforming to the digital patterns of this world, teaching you how to renew your mind and establish healthy technological boundaries in your home. By understanding the attention economy, you will learn how to use digital tools for redemptive, gospel-centered purposes instead of becoming captive to them.

Scripture Anchor: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind..." (Romans 12:2)
